Last year, during Food Day 2015, was the very first Come To The Table free community meal. It started in response to meetings with Somerville youth about how the community might help improve access to healthy food for residents, and it now takes place 5-7pm on the 4th Wednesday of each month. Thanks to the dedication of volunteers from many members of the Somerville Food Security Coalition and Connexion, this monthly free hot meal with delicious food takes place in a lively atmosphere, welcoming to all. Families, teens, and individuals from all throughout Somerville come together to celebrate community and share a meal. Each month there are different activities and new people to meet! There are a wealth of resources, in the form of both information and healthy food options –to eat and to take home! Please bring your own carry bag and containers.
Help celebrate our 1 year anniversary of this exciting event, just in time for the 2016 Food Day! Live music from folks at Groundwork Somerville and activities provided by The Beautiful Stuff Project will add to the special festivities. We look forward to seeing you there! Additional partners include: Food for Free, CHA-Somerville Community Health Agenda, Somerville Homeless Coalition, Somerville Health and Human Services, Shape Up Somerville, U. Mass Extension, Teen Empowerment, and CAAS Head Start and numerous interns and volunteers who help make the meal happen each month. Volunteers are welcome to help with everything from cooking and set up, to greeting guests and clean up.
